Bosco Tech Brings Home Trophies in Speech and Debate
The Tech Speech and Debate Team participated in the La Mirada High School’s 30th Annual Invitational on January 19th and 20th with the results that five Bosco debaters advanced to quarter finals, semi-finals and finals.
Senior ASB President Justin Valero advanced to finals in Varsity Congress, winning 2nd place; Sophomores Jonathan Peña and Raymund Mandujano advanced to quarter finals, then semifinals in Novice Public Forum placing third; The Sophomore policy team of Evan Godfrey and Aris Govjian (his first time in this event) advanced to quarterfinals then semifinals, placing third in Open Policy (i.e., varsity level)—Godfrey and Govjian were the first team going to quarterfinal rounds, of 32 varsity teams entered.
In speaker points, Bosco placed first, third, and sixth in varsity policy out of 64 participants! In addition, Peña and Manujano placed 7th and 8th in speaker points out of 24 participants in Novice Public Forum.
Also attending were seniors Greg Gutierrez and Jonathan Mui (Their policy team went 2-1); Seniors Vincent Zamayoa, Jacob Ferguson, Chris Andrade, Elliot Cuite, Ruy Amezcua; Sophomores Michael Dandurand, Andrew Hong, Chris Gastelum; Freshmen Armando Coronado, Michael Lopez, Brian Aguilera and Andrew Alvelais.
Previously, the novice Policy Team of sophomores Michael Dandurand and Evan Godfrey went 5-1 to quarterfinals at last year’s Cypress City College Invitational. The same team participated in Cal State Fullerton’s January Invitational as well.
