Ed Gavaldon (EL ’63)
Don Bosco Technical Institute recently lost an esteemed member of the school’s community, alumnus and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. Ed Gavaldon (EL ’63).
Quarterback of the school’s original football team, Mr. Gavaldon became a respected leader in the Southern California technology industry and served as CEO of three successful start-up software companies, including one that he took through the IPO process and ultimately oversaw as a public company.
A 1963 graduate of Bosco Tech’s Electronics technology, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from UCLA and an MBA from the USC School of Business; he also completed Stanford University’s Senior Executive Program. Mr. Gavaldon enjoyed a long and successful tenure with Xerox Corporation, serving as both vice president and general manager. More recently, he was the owner of E.A. Gavaldon Enterprises, providing consulting services to start-up technology companies. He was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young and “CEO of the Year by the Software Council of Southern California.
Mr. Gavaldon was appointed to the Bosco Tech Board of Trustees in 2005 and served as chairman from 2007 to 2015. Under his leadership, the school increased university acceptance rates among new graduates, saw an overall upturn in the average GPA of the student body, established a strong international outreach, and developed a master plan that supported the long-term goals for the school.
He was a member of an advisory board for Loyola Marymount University and served on the Board of Directors of the Sahara Solutions Foundation, which partners with rural West African communities to apply appropriate technology and engineering solutions for clean water, sanitation and electricity for nomadic nations.
His valuable insight, professional expertise, and generous contributions to his community will long be appreciated and his memory will be greatly missed throughout the Bosco Tech community.
Mr. Gavaldon is survived by his wife, Keely, and children Katie and Jason, as well as Jason’s wife and their children.
