About Bill Yurak

B0C_0156-wr“No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child,” Abraham Lincoln once said.

Bill Yurak is permanently commemorated by those stirring words inscribed on a plaque above his desk, where his bible is placed carefully atop his daily calendar. The plaque is a touching gift donated by the American Legion in honor of Yurak’s service to his country and to young people.

The plaque and desk are placed respectfully in the center of the new Bosco facility bearing his name. The Yurak Athletic Center (YAC), a newly developed and fully equipped sports training facility located under Tech Hall, is named after popular Bosco Tech Athletic Director Bill Yurak, who died in 2007. Coach Yurak was pivotal in re-introducing the school’s successful football program after a 34-year hiatus from the campus.

A decorated veteran, Yurak was known as a dedicated professional who “took ordinary boys and helped them to become extraordinary men,” eulogized Mr. Richard Ronan, Bosco registrar and longtime friend. “The grade, the touchdown, the victory, the championship was never as important as the young men that he taught, mentored and coached. The development of character was the goal.”

About the Yurak Athletic Center

The newly developed and fully equipped Yurak Athletic Center (YAC) sports training facilityB0C_0140-wr, located below Bosco’s Tech Hall and adjacent to the gym, is named after the well-known and beloved former Bosco Tech Athletic Director and Coach, Bill Yurak, who died in 2007. The YAC is the new home of Bosco Tech’s nine competitive sports teams: football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, cross country, track & field and golf. Additionally, all Bosco Tech students, faculty and staff have access to the center’s weight-lifting equipment. Community exercise classes are also conducted in the Center.

It features a weight room, a training room and locker rooms, a multi-purpose conference room, coaching offices and a media room used for teaching, analyzing past games and previewing the playing style of upcoming competitors. It also houses a locker room for Bosco Tech cheerleaders.
